ASML - In a nutshell

ASML provides chipmakers with everything they need – hardware, software and services – to mass produce patterns on silicon, helping to increase the value and lower the cost of a chip. Our key technology is the lithography system, which brings together high-tech hardware and advanced software to control the chip manufacturing process down to the nanometer. All of the world’s top chipmakers like Samsung, Intel and TSMC use our technology, enabling the waves of innovation that help tackle the world’s toughest challenges.

Event Timeline

1984

The founding of ASML

In 1984, Philips and Advanced Semiconductor Materials International (ASMI) created a new company to develop lithography systems.

1985

Veldhoven office

By 1985 ASML grew to 100 employees and moved into futuristic-looking headquarters in nearby Veldhoven.

2010

First Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography tool

In 2010, ASML shipped the first prototype Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography tool (NXE:3100) to the research facility of an Asian chip maker. Marking the beginning of a new era in lithography, EUV lithography uses light of a shorter wavelength to manufacture smaller chip features, resulting in faster, more powerful chips.
